Monoethylene Glycol(MEG)

Product Applications

Ethylene glycol is mainly used in the production of polyesters, polyester fibers, polyester resins, humectants, plasticizers, surfactants, synthetic fibers, and cosmetics.

It is also used as a solvent for dyes and inks, an engine antifreeze, a gas dehydrating agent, and a raw material for resin production. In addition, it can be used as a wetting agent for cellophane, fibers, leather, and adhesives.

Ethylene glycol can be used to produce PET synthetic resin. Fiber-grade PET is used for polyester fibers, while bottle-grade PET is used for products such as mineral water bottles. It can also be used to produce alkyd resins and glyoxal, as well as antifreeze products.

In addition to automotive antifreeze, ethylene glycol is also used for industrial cooling and heat transfer, where it is commonly referred to as a secondary refrigerant or heat-transfer fluid. It can also be used as a condensing medium, similar to water.

Ethylene glycol, also known as glycol or 1,2-ethanediol, is commonly abbreviated as EG. Its chemical formula is (CH₂OH)₂, and it is the simplest dihydric alcohol.

Ethylene glycol is a colorless, odorless, sweet-tasting liquid with low toxicity to animals. It is miscible with water and acetone but has relatively low solubility in ethers.

It is widely used as a solvent, antifreeze agent, and raw material for polyester production. Polyethylene glycol (PEG), a polymer of ethylene glycol, is used as a phase-transfer catalyst and in cell fusion. Its nitrate ester is used as an explosive.
